GMO

GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) is any organism that has the DNA modified by using genetic engineering technology. They change different things such as: improve their growth, their nutritional content, pest resistance, ease of farming, etc. These genetic modifications accelerate the selective breeding to give the organism the trait they desire. I think this is a huge step for humans because they are being able to change humanity, but at the same time it is not a natural thing and we don't know what effects can there be on the future.

It is estimated that there is around 80% of foods in the supermarkets that have ingredients that were genetically modified. I think that this is an important aspect that we don't even notice but we should start to, because if they do this without we don't even notice, what more are they doing to our food?

There is some concern that the GMO can produce different illnesses and allergies, but according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and USDA GMOs are safe for human and animal use. We should be more careful about the things we are eating because we don't know how our bodies will react with these chemicals.

Many GMO crops are genetically modified to express a gene that protects them against pests and insects, these modifications can also increase the nutritional value of foods. Moreover, the can be simply used to perfect the flavor and appearance o foods. I think that every company can choose between making things better for consumers or making things better for their own business(winning more money). The modifications to protect them against pests are important to discover because they can help to protect the plants from different bacterias, and the increase of nutritional value can help the people to improve people's health.

I personally think that GMO is a new discovery that has a lot of things to investigate because we don't know all the side effects that can happen, but they also help the improvement of crops and different aspects to humans
